About BPC

The SPI Bioplastics Council is a committee of SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association. The Council promotes the development of bioplastics as an integral part of the plastics industry by:

  1. Educating the plastics industry, federal, state and local governments, and value chain.
  2. Articulating clear and consistent descriptions of the different bioplastics options.
  3. Providing strategic advice to the plastics industry, federal, state and local governments and the value chain and promote harmonization of environmental policies.
  4. Establishing itself as the "go to" source for information about the bioplastics industry.

  • SPI to Honor 2015 Innovation in Bioplastics Award Winner at NPE2015 — September 15, 2014
    SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association and the SPI Bioplastics Council announced Monday that NPE2015, in addition to being the premier event of the entire plastics industry, will also host, for the first time, the winner of the 2015 Innovation in Bioplastics Award.
  • SPI Opens Third-Annual Innovation in Bioplastics Award Competition — September 2, 2014
    SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association and the SPI Bioplastics Council announced Tuesday the opening of the third-annual Innovation in Bioplastics Award competition. As in the previous two contests, the competition is open to any corporation, partnership or other business entity worldwide and seeks to acknowledge one creative, state-of-the-art innovation that represents the height of innovation in the bioplastics industry.
  • Member Highlights BASF Corporation — April 4, 2014
    BASF Corporation, headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey, is the North American affiliate of BASF SE, Ludwigshafen, Germany.
  • “Compounding & Devolatilization in the Twin Screw Extruder” — April 4, 2014
    Twin screw extruders (TSEs) continuously mix bioplastics with modifiers, fillers, additives and other polymers to increases product functionality. The heart of the TSE is its’ screws and barrels, the “process section.” Feeders set the rate and formulation percentages to the TSE.
