Machinery Safety Standards Committee

As an ANSI-accredited standards developer of American National Standards, SPI diligently pursues activities on behalf of the plastics industry under the procedures established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and invites greater industry participation to achieve those mutually beneficial objectives. Machine safety is an issue that affects all segments of the industry; machinery standards help to protect stakeholders, physically and financially.

ISO Standards Development

SPI administers the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (U.S. TAG) for the ISO (International Organization for Standards) Technical Committee (TC) on the safety of plastics and rubber machines. The first ISO/TC (#270) Work Group (WG1) is in the process of developing an ISO standard on the safety requirements for injection molding machines. WG1 includes participating representatives from fourteen countries and five observing countries. SPI is very interested in soliciting technical experts to participate in this work in either of two categories: participating fully in standards development meetings (the majority of which will occur in the EU) and participation in the review and commenting on working and committee drafts of developing standards.
