SPI STRUCTURAL PLASTICS DIVISION ELECTS OFFICERS

Washington (April 11, 2000) — The Structural Plastics Division of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) today announced its new slate of officers for the term June 1, 2000-May 31, 2002.

Brian Read, Horizon Plastics was elected chairman of the division. Stephen Trapp, GI Plastek was elected vice chairman. Members at large are Thomas Betts, Battenfeld of America, Inc.; Robb Robertson, Dekalb Molded Plastics Co.; David Shallenberg, FM Corporation; and Donald Wisch, Delta Mold, Inc.

The SPI Structural Plastics Division promotes the development and expansion of applications for structural plastics and strives to improve the acceptance of plastics in applications requiring strength, durability, flexibility of design, cost savings and other customer performance characteristics. The group sponsors the annual Structural Plastics Conference and Design Competition which highlights innovative technologies and products.

Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc is the trade association representing the fourth-largest manufacturing industry in the United States. SPI's 1,800 members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw material suppliers. The U.S. plastics industry employs 1.3 million workers and provides $274 billion in annual shipments.
