![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact: Martino Communications Inc. SPI LAUNCHES CONTENT-RICH, INTERACTIVE ONLINE MARKET AND MEETING PLACE FOR PLASTICS PROFESSIONALS WORLDWIDE WASHINGTON, DC (April 2, 2007) – A new online community with a wealth of informational content enables a plastics professional anywhere in the world to find the suppliers, customers, or industry peers needed to advance his or her business or career, it was announced today by the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI). Now “live” at www.myPlasticsIndustry.com, the website is the first in the plastics industry to combine the power of Internet search with innovative “personalization” technology for matching site visitors who have mutual business or professional interests, according to SPI president and CEO William R. Carteaux. By uploading their professional or business profiles and downloading special desktop software, participants can receive alerts to online developments specifically important to them, and interact with other participants who have relevant profiles. “myPlasticsIndustry.com provides tens of thousands of the world’s plastics suppliers, processors, designers, specifiers, and OEM users with the fastest and most accurate medium for communicating and doing business,” Carteaux said. “It will link buyers with sellers, employers with job-seekers, experts with researchers, and individuals throughout the industry with their professional peers.” As one of the chief innovations of myPlasticsIndustry.com, Carteaux cited its potential for ranking participating companies in the top results of the keyword search results generated by Google, Yahoo, and other search engines. Any supplier to the plastics industry can purchase “ownership” of a keyword, ensuring that search results linked to myPlasticsIndustry.com lead to a web page on which that company and not more than five competitors are listed. Companies will also have the opportunity to purchase online advertising, including banner ads, product spotlights, and “advertorials.” In addition, new “Face2Face” interactive technology enables a company to deliver a personal on-screen video message whenever certain keyword searches are performed. myPlasticsIndustry.com provides a content-rich environment where plastics professionals can access a detailed directory of goods and services; news feeds; technical papers; articles by experts; job listings; a repository of industry data; an events calendar; and all online content from SPI itself. Personalized Interaction Is Accessible to All Website Visitors SPI designed myPlasticsIndustry.com in cooperation with BDMetrics, Inc., creator of software originally developed for online interaction between exhibitors and registrants for trade shows, including SPI’s NPE plastics expositions. BDMetrics’ latest generation of this technology enables each site visitor to become an interactive participant of myPlasticsIndustry.com, using one of two kinds of downloadable desktop software, both of which provide alerts by means of a flash and a beep via a yellow “P” in the desktop icon tray. ? All site visitors can set up a personal profile, inputting their professional roles, fields of business interests, and contact information. Each profile is used to match relevant site content with the individual’s business or professional needs. By downloading personal desktop software, registered site users will receive alerts to new developments that match their profile. This capability will automatically be extended to registrants for the NPE 2009 trade show by means of a desktop application that they can download at the time of registration and use 365 days a year, long after the show is over. In turn, the entire database of show registrants, with the personal profiles normally submitted as part of registration, will be added to the database of myPlasticsIndustry.com. ? Keyword owners can download software called the Executive Console that alerts them to searches on their company keyword as they occur, providing reports on how often their listing pages were viewed, which companies visited, and how many matched the owners’ business interests. If a searcher on that keyword has also downloaded personalized desktop software, important qualifying information about that person (such as primary business and job function) already exists in the system, and channels for mutually permitted interaction are automatically set up. ‘Power of Numbers’ Is Key to Attracting Search Results and Site Participants At its start, myPlasticsIndustry.com draws on a database of more than 65,000 plastics professionals, including all exhibitors and visitor registrants for NPE 2006 and all SPI member companies. All of these individuals are searchable within myPlasticsIndustry.com. Similarly extensive is the initial site content, based on input from SPI, NPE exhibitors, keyword purchasers, industry experts, and news feeds. Thus the website begins with a “critical mass” for attracting web searches and community participants, according to William F. (Rick) Geritz, CEO of BDMetrics. “What ensures top listings for search results linked to myPlasticsIndustry.com is collective ranking leveraged through the power of numbers,” said Geritz. “For a website to achieve priority in search results, it must attract a large number of visitors, contain many relevant web links, and include many mentions of relevant keywords. myPlasticsIndustry.com already possesses the critical mass to become the predominant industry portal, and as it grows in content and number of participants, its capability to attract search results will become even greater.” Priority in Internet search results is now essential to successful marketing, Geritz noted. “The keyword is today’s most important marketing tool. Consider that 84% of people with Internet access use a search engine to find information, and 78% use one to research products before purchase. But keywords aren’t enough. Do a Google search on ‘injection molding machines,’ and 1,390,000 listings appear. SPI has ensured that myPlasticsIndustry.com will gain steady traction in search engine visibility based on the industry-relevant search engine optimization initiatives that have been deployed.” Information on prices for keyword ownership is available from Erwin Stierle of BDMetrics at 1-703-852-3075 or EStierle@bdmetrics.com. Questions about site content should be addressed to Tracy Cullen of SPI at 1-202-974-5282 or tcullen@socplas.org. ### BDMETRICS is the creator of You-Based™ personalization technology, used by leading tradeshows and associations to customize entire events around the unique needs and interests of all participants.
