SPI APPOINTS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR NPE 2009, WITH NEW POSITIONS REFLECTING BROADENED SCOPE OF THIS GLOBAL SHOW WASHINGTON, DC (January 2, 2007) – The committee of industry leaders that will work with The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) to organize NPE 2009 is headed by Chairman Randy Pearson of Xaloy, Inc. and includes new subcommittees focused on aspects of the show with great potential for growth, SPI announced today. Sponsored by SPI, the triennial world plastics exposition will take place June 22-26, 2009 at Chicago’s McCormick Place exhibition center. The Vice Chairman of NPE 2009 is John Effmann of ENTEK Manufacturing, Inc. He will also serve as chairman of SPI’s Plastics USA 2008 show, scheduled for March 4-6, 2008 at McCormick Place West. The Executive Board headed by Pearson and Effmann is larger than for past NPEs, with chairpersons for three new subcommittees focused on developing innovative educational programs for NPE 2009, expanding the range of technologies presented at the show, and increasing the already sizeable participation by international exhibitors and visitors. “NPE 2006 was a turning point in NPE history, with a larger and more diversified educational program than ever before, record international participation, and an influx of new technologies such as nanocomposites and biopolymers,” said Walt Bishop, SPI’s Vice President of Trade Shows. “Together with the expanded Executive Committee, SPI will build on the success of 2006 to produce a 2009 show that is even broader in scope and provides even greater value for both exhibitors and visitors.” Other members of the NPE 2009 Executive Committee include: Tim Stojka: Immediate Past Chairman and New Technology Chairman. Stojka is CEO of Fast Heat, Inc, Elmhurst, IL. Brian T. Bishop: Operations Chairman. Bishop is President of Demag Plastics Group, Strongsville, OH. Larry Doyle: Sales and Marketing Chairman. Doyle is Vice President of Marketing for The Conair Group., Pittsburgh, PA. Todd Y. Bennett: Education Chairman. Bennett is President of United Southern Industries, Inc., Forest City, NC. Vincent L. Witherup: International Chairman. Witherup is Vice President of The Conair Group, Franklin, PA. All Committee members are volunteers who will continue to carry out their corporate responsibilities while working on NPE 2009. Randy Pearson Combines Broad Industry and Trade Show Expertise Born and raised in Minnesota, Randy Pearson served in the U.S. Army Security Agency before obtaining bachelors degrees in business and economics from the University of Minnesota. After entering the plastics industry in 1976 by joining Solid Controls Inc., he went on to positions with Honeywell, Intermetrics, and Milacron (then Cincinnati Milacron). In 1992 Pearson joined the Normag Division of Dynisco as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He became President of Dynisco Extrusion in 1999. When Dynisco Extrusion was acquired by Xaloy, Inc. in March of 2006, Pearson became President of the new Xaloy Extrusion business unit. His office is in Hickory, NC. Pearson served on the Operations Committee for NPE 2000 and subsequently was Chairman of the NPE 2003 Operations Committee, Chairman of the Plastics USA 2004 show, and Vice Chairman of NPE 2006. He has served on SPI’s National Board and the Equipment Council of the SPI Machinery Division. John Effmann Brings More than Three Decades of Plastics Industry Experience After receiving a BBA degree in marketing from the University of Cincinnati, John Effmann began his plastics career in 1972 by joining Milacron, where he served in a variety of senior management positions over 27 years. In 1998 he formed the marketing firm Symphony Communications from a business unit purchased from Milacron. Subsequent roles included managing all marketing functions for the IMTS trade show. In 2005 Effmann joined extrusion system builder ENTEK Manufacturing Inc., Lebanon, OR, as Corporate Marketing Manager and is now Director of Sales and Marketing. ### NPE 2009 and PLASTICS USA 2008 are triennial plastics trade expositions sponsored by SPI and held at Chicago’s McCormick Place. Plastics USA 2008 will take place March 4-6, 2008, in the new McCormick Place West (currently under construction) and will be the year’s largest North American plastics show. The world-scale NPE 2009 exposition will take place June 22-26, 2009. NPE 2006 attracted 1,838 exhibitors on 942,524 sq.ft. (87,600 sq. m) of net space; 33% of them came directly from outside the U.S. Of 64,438 industry professionals who registered to attend, 23% were internationals from 114 countries.
