SPI PRESIDENT CARTEAUX SELECTED TO SERVE ON ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO U.S. SECRETARY OF LABOR ELAINE CHAO

Plastics Industry Leader “Honored” to Serve and Help Advance American Manufacturing via Two-Year Term on Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 20, 2008)—The U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao invited the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) President and CEO William R. Carteaux to serve as a representative of the employer sector on the Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (ACA). SPI is the plastics industry trade association representing some 1,100 companies in all areas of plastics manufacturing.

“Maintaining a current workforce that is skilled and knowledgeable, as well as attracting young, bright minds to be our future workforce, are the keys to our nation’s competitiveness in the global economy,” said Carteaux. “SPI has made human capital management a priority and we offer a variety of programs and services to address the plastics industry’s workforce needs. I am honored that Secretary Chao has selected me to serve on the ACA and I look forward to sharing my ideas and joining with others to help advance American manufacutring.”

An advisory group to the Secretary of Labor, the ACA is comprised of approximately 30 members appointed for one or two-year terms. The membership is balanced with equal representation of employers, labor organizations and the public. The ACA provides advice and recommendations in the following areas: (1) the development and implementation of administration policies on legislation and regulations affecting apprenticeship; (2) the preparation of the American workforce for sustained employment through employment and training programs for new and incumbent workers, as well as quality economic and labor market information; (3) measures that will foster quality workplaces that are safe, healthy and fair; and (4) strategies to meet the competitive labor demands of a global economy.

Carteaux previously served as the company's vice president of sales and marketing. Prior to joining Demag, Carteaux spent eight years with a manufacturer of vertical injection molding machines, including four years as its president. He holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a B.S. from Purdue, where, in 2005, he was named an “Old Master,” one of only 500 of more than 300,000 lifetime graduates of the University.
