As the one-year anniversary of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (LCSA) approaches, EPA is working to meet its statutory deadlines to finalize framework rules on chemical prioritization and risk evaluation under the amended Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

The final rule on “Procedures for Prioritization of Chemicals for Risk Evaluation Under the Toxic Substances Control Act” was submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review on May 23, and the “Procedures for Evaluating Existing Chemical Risks Under the Toxic Substances Control Act” was submitted on June 1.

EPA is also finalizing a rule, for which OMB review is not necessary, to determine which substances on the TSCA Inventory are active or inactive in U.S. commerce. PLASTICS signed on to coalition comments for all three rulemakings, previously described here. For more information, please contact Marie Gargas.
