Position Statement on Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems

The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems within member companies. The SPI believes that such systems provide a consistent means of management direction and should include formalized methods to identify, evaluate and correct environmental, health and safety hazards in the workplace. SPI encourages the implementation of systems that ensure employee involvement and employee training programs, and those that establish workplace standards that protect employees and the environment.

SPI believes that the establishment of an Environmental, Health and Safety Management System can be integrated with the adoption of existing quality management systems.

SPI believes that Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems implementation should remain voluntary and be introduced to member companies who desire to integrate their health and safety management into their business operations.
