PLASTICS Announces Fourth Annual Re|focus Sustainability & Recycling Summit May 20 – 22, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC –  Following its largest Re|focus Sustainability & Recycling Summit to date, co-located with NPE2018 in May, the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) today announced the 2019 Re|focus Sustainability & Recycling Summit will be held May 20 –22 at the DeVos Place Grand Rapids Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. and will include a new awards element – the Re|focus Sustainability Innovation Awards.

The Re|focus Sustainability Innovation Awards will recognize leading innovations in three categories: design, materials and end-of-life management. PLASTICS and its programming partner for the Summit, the SPE-Inspiring Plastics Professionals Sustainability Division, will select the winners of the awards. The awards will recognize leaders that exemplify sustainability in plastics design and manufacturing through use of recycled content, design for recyclability, innovations in equipment and bioplastics, and overall product design that reduces the environmental footprint of manufacturing or the product.

“The Re|focus Sustainability Innovation Awards are a crucial next step that will give visibility to innovations in our industry that are advancing sustainability,” said Donna Davis, sustainability and advocacy manager for plastics and resins at ExxonMobil Chemical Co. “We hope that by highlighting these innovations, we can drive out-of-the-box thinking and inspire others to take steps toward sustainable practices and product design.”

Official nominations for the awards will open in September 2018. Also in September, the Re|focus Sustainability & Recycling Summit will issue a call for papers, seeking speakers who are leading innovation in sustainability and who will participate in panel discussions, engaging other speakers and attendees.

Visit the 2019 Re|focus Sustainability & Recycling Summit website for the most current information and sign up for updates here. Rules and guidelines for the awards will be posted when the nomination process opens.
