PLASTICS staff were on Capitol Hill on January 3 visiting with new and returning members of Congress during Swearing-In Day festivities for the 115th Congress. Staff visited with 22 members of Congress to begin or continue positive relationships on behalf of PLASTICS and the industry.

Swearing-In Day is a great opportunity for informal introductions to get to know new members of Congress and their staffs before the hectic business of governing begins in earnest. After the congressional committees are finalized with new members added, PLASTICS staff will begin outreach to those decision makers who can be influential for the industry during the next two years. Fulfilling their Constitutional obligation, members of both the House and Senate met at noon on January 3 to convene the 115th Congress. Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin was re-elected as Speaker of the House, and he swore in all 435 members of the House of Representatives. On the other side of the building, the 34 newly-elected Senators, or a third of the Senate, were sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden.
