In Case You Missed It: Bioplastics Week 2018
PLASTICS’ Bioplastics Division held its fourth annual Bioplastics Week, a social media driven campaign dedicated to increase the visibility and understanding of bioplastics, September 17 – 21, 2018. In celebration of Bioplastics Week, PLASTICS shared educational information, videos and graphics about the material and hosted a webinar and Twitter chat to educate the industry and consumers.
Here’s an overview of Bioplastics Week 2018:
Innovation in Bioplastics Award
- On Tuesday, September 18, PLASTICS’ Bioplastics Division named Danimer Scientific and PepsiCo the joint winners of the 2018 Innovation in Bioplastics Award for their bio-based and compostable chip bag. Learn more about the innovation here.

Education from This Is Plastics
- PLASTICS shared information and graphics from This Is Plastics’ article about bioplastics to increase understand of what bioplastics are.

Role of Bioplastics in the Home
- Bioplastics are all around us. PLASTICS shared some surprising applications for bioplastics in this new infographic: “Bioplastics at Home,” created with BPI and the USDA BioPreferred Program.

Twitter Chat with Experts in Bioplastics
- PLASTICS coordinated a Twitter Chat with experts in bioplastics. During the chat, PLASTICS posed five questions ranging from “What do you think is the greatest benefit of using bioplastics?” to “What do you think is the next BIG application for bioplastics?”

Mind the gap: Increased productivity key to U.S. economic recovery
August 16, 2021 The COVID-19 recession was the shortest in U.S. history.[i] It started in February and ended in April last year. While the recession was short, it stopped our economy in its tracks. The recession caused a contraction of 5.1% in Q1 2020 and a contraction of 31.2% in Q2 2020 measured by real gross domestic product (GDP) on an annualized basis. Thereafter, real GDP growth bounced back at 33.8% in Q3 2020 and 4.5% in Q4 2020. In the first and second quarters this year, real GDP increased 6.3% and 6.5%, respectively.
