A recent article on the Industrial Equipment News website highlights yet another area in which plastic is the preferred material for an important function.
Due to the caustic materials used in chemical plants, companies go to great lengths to reduce corrosion resulting from equipment having contact with such material.
One particular point of contact is in chemical plant cooling towers, where extremely hot process water that has been mixed with caustic material is reduced in temperature and then returned to the process. The cooling towers exhaust the removed heat into the atmosphere.
In order to avoid cooling tower corrosion, galvanized-metal towers are increasingly being replaced with corrosion-resistant engineered-plastic cooling towers.
