The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS), a Washington DC based trade association, represents the nation’s nearly one million workers in the plastics industry. PLASTICS seeks a Manager, Regulatory Affairs to manage two to three committees and programs that support PLASTICS’ advocacy strategies on behalf of member companies for effectively managing issues related to plastics used in food, drug, and cosmetic packaging applications. The Regulatory Affairs Manager assists in driving the long-term planning and implementation of strategic regulatory programs and projects.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff liaison for the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Packaging Materials Committee (FDCPMC) including creating and distributing agendas, capturing and distributing meeting minutes and assisting the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs as needed. .
- Serve as the staff liaison for the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Committee, including creating and distributing agendas, capturing and distributing meeting minutes and assisting the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs as needed.
- Support the implementation of regulatory programs and projects related to EHS and food, drug, and cosmetic packaging safety.
- Support the planning and implementation of various meetings and conferences.
- Monitor and track current and emerging policy issues related to EHS and food, drug, and cosmetic packaging safety.
- Write weekly policy briefs and updates to communicate emerging policy issues to staff and member committees.
- With guidance from the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs, monitor and respond to member inquiries in various email accounts.
- Support programming to provide members with relevant compliance assistance and education; encourage member participation in regulatory and legislative processes.
- Support implementation of advocacy strategies relevant to existing and proposed regulations.
- Support advocacy and communication to varies international, federal, and state governmental agencies, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and others.
- Facilitate engagement with regulatory agencies, industry trade groups, coalitions, scientific institutions, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Support in maintaining a network to drive industry priorities forward. Promote the use of sound science and regulatory consistency across jurisdictions.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in polymer or packaging science/engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, toxicology, political science, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a regulatory policy position or similar role with a ; government agency, plastics industry, or trade-association.
- Experience working with FDA, EPA, and other U.S. agencies preferred.
- Experience working with or willingness to learn committees or coalitions.
