District Fact Sheets:

Employment

The Eighth District of North Carolina, represented by the Honorable Richard Hudson, is home to plastics manufacturers and establishments engaged in plastics processing activities (captives) that directly employ 1,620 people. It is also home to plastics dependent industries that use plastics to make or provide numerous products and services. Plastics and dependent industries combined employ 98,120 in North Carolina's Eighth District.

Payroll

The plastics industry’s direct payroll in North Carolina's Eighth District, including captive plastic products, is $79 million. Plastics dependent industries add another $4 billion to the district’s payroll.

Although some of the dependent payroll would exist without plastics, there would be less of it, because cost effective replacements for plastics are not available in many applications.

Taxes

Together, plastics manufacturers, captives and the industries that depend on plastics contribute $1,323 million in state and federal personal income taxes, and $634 million in payroll (FICA) taxes.
