One of four leadership councils under the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) umbrella, the Brand Owners Council is the main point of engagement into PLASTICS for brand owners, OEMs, and other manufacturers of plastic consumer goods and end users of plastic packaging.  The Council offers unparalleled networking and collaboration opportunities across the entire plastics industry supply chain.

The Council explores ways to work across the supply chain to shape technology, standards and industry best practices, regulations and public outreach initiatives to serve the unique business interests of companies reaching the commercial and retail end-use buyers.

Our key concerns and priorities include zero waste strategies for sustainability and environmental stewardship, research and development (R&D) programs, recycling, product safety initiatives, and supply chain transparency.

The mission of the Council is achieved through several avenues:

  • Regulation & Information: We are proactive with materials regulations and compliance matters while getting the industry involved in recycling regulatory issues as well. Information sharing is a core value of the Council, and ranges from Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) to RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive).
  • Platform for Engagement: The Council drives broader PLASTICS engagement in key consumer-facing issues like challenges of reclamation and scalability, recycled material availability, and recycled content use. We keep a close eye on macro-economics and leading indicators that could result in impacts to industry. The Council supports the supplier community on sustainability initiatives while being mindful of customers.
  • Standard & Best Practices: The Council facilitates benchmarking across different end markets, compiling statistics and information important to various end materials and industry sectors. Our Zero Net Waste program recognizes companies that take steps to drive toward zero net waste in manufacturing.
  • Individual Company Participation: Member participation in various PLASTICS divisions, committees and work groups ensures brand owner perspectives are included in the work of these groups.
