Washington D.C.— The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) President and CEO, Matt Seaholm, today issued the following statement regarding EPA and HHS’ announcement on microplastics:
“As innovators and problem solvers, we believe risk-based, science-driven approaches are essential to strengthening understanding and informing sound policymaking.
PLASTICS supports a federal research approach grounded in clear definitions, harmonized methodologies, and reproducible science that policymakers and consumers can trust. As EPA and HHS continue this work, we stand ready to serve as a constructive partner and resource to help strengthen the scientific foundation around both environmental pathways and potential human health considerations.
We also continue to support the Plastic Health Research Act (PHRA) as a constructive framework for coordinated federal research built on sound science and consistent standards.
The most effective path forward is one rooted in credible science, practical collaboration, and evidence-based policymaking that delivers meaningful real-world outcomes.
