PLASTICS: Time for Swift Action to Reopen the Government

Washington D.C.— The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) today released the following statement amid the ongoing government shutdown:

“The ongoing government shutdown—now the longest in U.S. history—is disrupting critical operations, threatening jobs, investments, and the stability of our nation’s manufacturing sector,” said Matt Seaholm, President & CEO of the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS). “With every passing day, stalled government operations are putting real people and businesses at risk—halting projects, freezing permits, and cutting off the momentum manufacturers need to grow and hire.

Americans rely on the plastics industry to produce essential products that support healthcare, food safety, transportation, and more. Delays in production and distribution are being felt across our economy, affecting the one million workers throughout our industry and the communities they support.

Lawmakers now have a clear path forward to re-open the government. We urge them to act quickly—restore stability, support U.S. manufacturing, and deliver the much-needed relief and certainty that workers, businesses, and families deserve. The American people expect their leaders to keep the economy moving, not hold it back,” concluded Seaholm.
