Sales Manager at Maguire Products, Michael Maguire recently joined the family business and is already building relationships across the plastics industry. In his role, Michael works directly with customers to understand their needs, provide product information and quotations, and help identify solutions using Maguire’s auxiliary equipment for plastics manufacturing.
Maguire Products designs and manufactures auxiliary equipment used throughout the plastics industry. For Michael, joining the company was a natural step. Founded by his grandfather, Steve Maguire, the business has long been a part of his life, and he always hoped to follow in the footsteps of his father, uncles, and grandfather.
Michael earned a degree in Business Management with a minor in Marketing from Indiana University. As he begins his career in plastics, he credits Frank Kavanaugh, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Maguire Products, as an important mentor who continues to help shape his professional development. “I still have a lot to learn from him and am excited to continue to grow under his tutelage,” Michael says.
What Michael enjoys most about the plastics industry is the people. He has found the industry to be welcoming and collaborative, while also appreciating the significant role plastics play in everyday life. From automotive applications to medical products, he sees plastics as an essential part of modern society and believes the next generation has an important responsibility to improve efficiency and sustainability across the industry.
Michael also recognizes challenges facing the industry, including global economic uncertainty and the need for stronger recycling infrastructure in the United States. He believes continued innovation and collaboration will be critical to creating a more sustainable future while maintaining the benefits plastics provide.
Having joined Future Leaders in Plastics (FLiP) shortly after starting at Maguire Products, Michael has already participated in several networking events, happy hours, trade show meetups, and the Spring Fly-In in Washington, D.C. He says FLiP has been instrumental in helping him build connections and establish relationships with other young professionals across the industry.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys hiking, traveling, and working out. A former wrestler at Indiana University, he still closely follows Big Ten wrestling. When asked about one plastic product he couldn’t live without, Michael points to his Garmin watch, an everyday essential that helps keep him connected and active.
