SPI’s Bioplastics Division has been working on education and outreach since 2007. A national poll conducted in 2016 validated the need for more awareness of bioplastics. The report highlights low familiarity with bioplastics, consumer willingness to pay more for bioplastic products, and lack of awareness of the USDA Certified Biobased Product seal. Despite challenges and misconceptions, there is support for the growth of bioplastics, as shown by organizations like the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The report aims to provide insights into the role of bioplastics in meeting the needs of brands and businesses.
