PLASTICS has developed a voluntary coding system for plastic containers to aid recyclers in sorting them by material type. The coding system, recommended to the industry, provides a national identification mark on the bottom of plastic containers. It aims to be convenient for sorting personnel, avoiding complexity and the need for extensive training. Standardizing the coding system nationally is crucial to maintain smooth commerce and prevent disruptions caused by different code systems used by companies or states.
