WASHINGTON, D.C. – Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) announced today the launch of OCS India, expanding the program’s international reach into one of the world’s largest plastics markets. OCS is a globally recognized resin stewardship program jointly administered by the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) Plastics Division.
With this launch, OCS now operates in 18 of the 24 countries that make up the world’s top plastics importers and exporters. OCS India will be administered by the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA), supporting efforts to prevent plastic resin loss throughout the country’s plastics supply chain.
India is one of the world’s top 10 importers of plastic and a priority market for OCS expansion due to its role in global manufacturing and trade. The launch also strengthens the program’s presence across Asia, a key region for advancing global resin stewardship.
“Preventing plastic resin loss is a global responsibility, and expanding Operation Clean Sweep into India is an exciting and important step,” said Patrick Krieger, senior vice president of sustainability and policy at PLASTICS. “With India’s significant role in the global plastics supply chain, this partnership allows us to reach more companies with the tools and resources needed to promote responsible resin stewardship around the world. We’re proud to work with AIPMA to continue building on OCS’s international momentum and working toward our shared goal of zero resin loss.”
“The more countries that participate in Operation Clean Sweep, the more we can accomplish together to keep plastic resin out of the environment,” said Adam Peer, senior director of plastics sustainability at the American Chemistry Council. “Each new partner brings experience and ideas that strengthen the program for everyone. We welcome AIPMA and India’s plastics industry and look forward to learning from one another as we work toward zero resin loss.”
Through partnerships with local entities around the globe, OCS provides companies with practical tools, resources and strategies to encourage responsible resin handling during manufacturing and transportation. Locally administered programs allow these efforts to be tailored to regional operations and industry needs while supporting a shared global commitment to keep plastic out of the environment.
