Plastics Industry Association Celebrates Tenth Annual Bioplastics Week

Washington D.C.— The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) announced the start of its tenth annual Bioplastics Week beginning today, October 20, and running through Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Bioplastics Week features a social media campaign designed to increase visibility for bioplastics by driving digital engagement through infographics, reports, blog posts, videos, and more. In 2023 alone, PLASTICS messaging, and that of other participants, reached more than 2 million viewers across social media platforms.

PLASTICS encourages participants to join or follow along on social media by using the hashtag #BioplasticsWeek on all relevant posts, including educational content about material or product innovations, applications for bioplastics, how to dispose of bioplastic products properly to keep them in the circular economy, and more. This hashtag will enable consumers, brands, government officials, as well as the broader plastics industry to learn about bioplastics on a much larger scale than would be possible through individual posts.

“Bioplastics Week continues to be a powerful platform to showcase the innovation and momentum driving the bioplastics sector,” said Patrick Krieger, PLASTICS Senior Vice President of Sustainability and Policy. “In celebration of our tenth annual Bioplastics Week campaign, we invite everyone—from consumers to policymakers—to join the conversation, explore the facts, and discover how bioplastics are shaping a more sustainable future.”

PLASTICS’ Bioplastics Division has identified seven major themes to highlight throughout Bioplastics Week:

  • Sunday, October 26 – Spread the Word
  • Monday, October 20 – Defining Bioplastics
  • Tuesday, October 21 – The Feedstocks Behind Bioplastics
  • Wednesday, October 22 – How Bioplastics Are Made
  • Thursday, October 23 – Where You’ll Find Bioplastics
  • Friday, October 24 – Circular End-of-Life Options
  • Saturday, October 25 – How to Support the Bioplastics Industry
